1) Tell us something about yourself that your fans may not know.
A: I actually do pretty much everything. Okay, not totally everything but not to make
myself look better than I am, but I think you'd be surpised that I do almost all the
writing, production, then record nearly everything myself including my own vocals.
Then I design nearly all the visuals you see, and make my own merch. It's a lot but
so satisfying, maybe one day I can expand and have a team around me!
2) How has living in different places around the world had an impact on your music style, if
at all?
A: One thing it definitely has done is made me more open. Not just to different kinds of
music because what's popular in Singpaore isn't necessarily the same as what's
popular in Sydney... But also the different cultures have their own vibe that
influences the art I make.
3) What made you want to start making music?
A: From a young age I was always making things. I drew comics, did graphic design,
recorded spoof bootleg songs Weird Al-style (which I'm so embarrassed about)...
And I think one day I saw my friends in a band, and I wasn't in it, but loved
everything about it. So just decided to play music on my own. Covering songs
became writing them, to now releasing them.
4) Who are some artists who inspired your musical style?
A: John Mayer was the original inspiration, but after that literally every artist inspires
me and I';m not even trying to be all musically holy... It's so funny because I could
listen to Stormzy and want to make drill, then go to Kacey Musgraves and want to
write country. Then go to Ella Mai and want to make R&B. It's weird but I love it. I
think a bit of everything seeps into my own music, somehow.
5) What was the inspiration behind your single Memento?
A: The idea for the song musically first came from Jakarta, Indonesia. My friends Josh
Paladi and Jon Mauliate who are songwriters and producers sent over a track idea
which was the baby idea for “Memento”. I took it on from there and started to work
on it – including the lyrics about missing somebody while driving through Malibu on
a holiday one time. It's such a sad song actually but it's so upbeat, I love it haha.
6) What's next for you as 2022 comes to an end?
A: The weeks have been so busy, I definitely need to catch up on sleep. I'm releasing
more music leading up to my second EP called METADRAMATIC, and with each
release also comes merch from the unique world of that release. It's from my brand
Emotional Sauna (named after my first EP), and you can check out the limited
edition merch at emotionalsauna.com! I'm also doing a showcase here in Sydney
and am pretty excited about singing all these new songs live!
